The 5 Books I Wish I had Read in 2020

It’s that time of the year when I reflect on all the reading I’ve done in this past year. And while I’ve read, almost 130 books so far!! (Thank you quarantine.) There are still a lot of books I didn’t get around to reading this year that I really wish I would have read. They’ll definitely be on my 2021 reading list though!

Book 1: Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo.

This has become one of the quintessential Dark Academia books and I have yet to read it! Not for lack of trying though. I’ve picked up the audiobook and the narrator sounds like they’d be fantastic but for some reason this book feels like the kind of book I’m going to want to read in it’s physical format. You know when some books just want to be read by hand? Yeah, that’s how this book reads to me. I waited until the Autumn months to pick it up and that was my mistake because those are some of the busiest months in retail and those were also my slumpiest months of reading and so, this book never got read.

Book 2: The Starless Sea by: Erin Morgenstern

The reason for not reading this one is simple, it intimidates the heck out of me. First of all, it’s massive. Second of all, I feel like it’s going to make me cry. No idea why I think that but that’s what my gut tells me and I don’t want to cry right now. I also kind of want to read The Night Circus before I read this one simply because that’s the publication order and I’m weird like that.

Book 3: Wicked Saints by: Emily A. Duncan

Now this is a book I know I cannot listen to on audiobook because I’ve tried and I can confirm, I did not like the narrator one bit. I am super picky when it comes to my audiobooks because if the narrator and I don’t jive then the book is a no go. And listening to the first chapter on audiobook essentially turned me off to the book because I could not, for the life me, get the narrator’s voice out of my head. However, it’s been a few months now and I can since report that I have completely forgotten what the narrator’s voice sounded like and so, I would really like to pick this book up in the new year.

Book 4: Where Dreams Descend by: Janella Angeles

This is another book, much like Ninth House, where I started it on audio but I just KNEW that this book needed to be read in it’s physical format. Unfortunately, much like Ninth House, I picked this book up during the busiest time in retail and I couldn’t give it the full attention I wanted to so I ended up putting it down. (Clearly we’re seeing a pattern here of retail interfering with my reading life. Something must be done about this.) I’m definitely going to be picking this one up in the new year and based on the little bit I’ve read so far it really feels like a five star prediction for me.

Book 5: Aurora Burning by: Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

And last but not least, the book I was most anticipating in 2020 and the book that truly scares the living daylight out of me, Aurora Burning. This book SCARES me because I know, I just KNOW, that it’s going to break me. And the release date of the third book hasn’t been announced yet (to my knowledge) and I really don’t know what I’m going to do at the end of this book. I have incredibly high expectations for this book since Aurora Rising was my favourite book of 2019. Mostly though, I’m just very worried something bad will happen to Kal and Kal is my bias. I would die for him yall. I’m not someone who ever really had a “book bae” growing up until I was introduced to Kaliis Idraban Gilwraeth (aka Kal) and I can definitively tell you that I love him. Again, I would die for him and should anything happend to him or Aurora in this book I just think it would break me. And 2020 has been tough enough, don’t we think? So I’ll be pushing this book to my 2021 tbr.

What books do you wish you could have read this year? Let me know in the comments below!

Ta for now!
