Gatsby Blanket – Part Two
Hello again! Hope all is well.
I’ve got a Gatsby Blanket update to share with you. I finished all of rounds two and three! Woohoo!! All together I now have 35, slightly bigger, squares that are just dying to be crocheted into even bigger squares and then joined together. (In case you missed my intro post about about my Gatsby Blanket, you can find it here.)
I laid out all the little squares in the order that they’ll live in and so far I am absolutely loving the way they all look together! I’m obsessed. This blanket is all dark and moody but then the outer edges hit with that little ray of light, a perfect description for my life at the moment.
I do find that whatever blanket I am working on at the moment really does sort of reflect my life at that point in time. That, or more likely, I just have really strong emotions tied to every blanket. (I think we’ll have to do a blanket tour one day so I can introduce you to all my different creations and the stories that accompany them.)
For example, the first blanket I ever started (but the first blanket I finished) I started crocheting while I was going to school in North Carolina. I so distinctly remember sitting next to the spotlight I was operating (I was the centre spotlight operator for this show…but I can’t remember the name of it…) I was crocheting my granny squares during an all day Saturday rehearsal where I had an ENORMOUS amount of downtime. In all honesty, I probably should have been working on homework but my granny squares were just so much more important to me at the time. I also have another very distinct memory of driving to AC Moore one late afternoon with my best friend J and picking out about 10 different balls of yarn all in every variation of pink-red-orange-yellow-gold-purple that I could find. (These have been the most commonly used colours in all my crochet since that day.) And so, even though I finished that blanket while living in Florida, whenever I see it I’m immediately transported back to my freshman year of college and that adorable, grungy little town I lived in in North Carolina.
I’m assuming anyone who crafts with their hands probably feels the same way about their creations. But I’ve rambled enough about things not pertaining to my Gatsby blanket.
I’m really happy with the way this blanket is progressing. I don’t get the chance to work on it everyday but but when I do it does bring me joy. Especially now that I’m on to the third colours (rows 4-6) because they’re straight-forward and soothing rounds. The real fun is going to come when I start joining them all together though! That’s always a very satisfying bit of crocheting.
Anyway, I’ll leave you with that!
xoxo Juju
